Barfoot & Thompson – Wynyard Quarter
Unlike most Barfoot & Thompson branches that required a refurbishment, Wynyard Quarter was a completely new fit out. CDM enlisted SpaceIt for the site measure, space plan and joinery design of this new branch.
With a floor area of just 50 square meters, the brief required a reception counter, 3 sales desks, an informal meeting area, a kitchenette, and a utility space. The final space plan incorporated all these spaces along with a high table that could be used as a hot desk / meeting table.
The joinery treatment and furniture were in-line with all the other B&T branches. In this branch, the timber slats were extended from the wall and along the ceiling, creating an aesthetically pleasing feature.
Golden Apple Dental
Through CDM, SpaceIt’s first dental project was Golden Apple Dental in Havelock North. The brief called for a one chair dental clinic that incorporated an open sterile room. The site was very compact; therefore, careful consideration was taken when space planning the different areas.
Based on the client’s brief, the dental clinic is designed in a Victorian style with panel joinery. Along with the preliminary space plan, SpaceIt provided the joinery drawings for the reception counter, kitchenette, lab, sterile room and dental room.
SpaceIt worked closely with CDM throughout the design process to ensure all dental specifications and requirements were met.
Gavin’s House
Gavin wanted to transform his basement into a two-bedroom dwelling that felt more open and airy. The finished space plan proposed breaking down two non load-bearing walls making the main room bigger. The implementation of the ranch slider in the lounge would allow sufficient daylight to penetrate the entire space.
The second proposed bedroom was very long and narrow. Therefore, separating the space with a wall made it feel and look more proportionate. The remaining space may be used as storage.
Since the passage from the lounge to the kitchen is quite narrow, the dining table is placed against the wall – comfortably seating 4 and allowing for enough walking space. The area under the the stairs is also utilized by proposing a decent sized office/study space.
STAAH office
The new STAAH office on the North Shore required a very open space plan that took into consideration lighting and acoustics. The main aim of this space planning was to create a flexible layout that could be changed when needed. All the different departments were given defined spaces making it easier for discussion and collaboration.
Desk partitions are used as sufficient pin-up space and act as sound buffers. Everyone has an ample work-space and the common kitchen is easily accessible by everyone in the office. This new office was space planned using STAAH’s existing furniture.
The placement of the existing power outlets influenced the layout of the desks. Outlets were used along two walls and within the hollow columns. The space plan, therefore, allowed for generous walkways between the desks.
